LUNAS & RAMPTON contacted the Spanish news media on June 24, 2007, which was the day before the mother and father of Hazelle were to surrender to immigration for deportation. After this news coverage, the Associate Press reported on the case on July 11, which sparked a considerable amount of interest and necessitated us holding a news conference on July 12, the day Hazelle was to undergo heart surgery. Fortunately, that same day Department of Homeland Security granted a stay of deportation, allowing our office to pursue possible legal remedies and appeals for the family.
